CLASS DESCRIPTIONS

Ashtanga Primary Series
This traditional sequence is also called “yoga chikitsa” or yoga therapy.  Students will be encouraged to remember the bhandas and to breathe as they move deeper into poses which will build in complexity.  The forward bends of this series along with the internal heat, built by the ujjayi breath and the vinyasas, work to purify the body of physical and emotional toxins.  It builds tremendous upper body strength and tones the abdominal region as well as giving tone and flexibility to the legs.  This is truly a full body workout.  Be sure to bring a towel along with your sticky mat!   Prerequisite: Yoga experience is necessary.

Beginning Hatha Yoga
This 8-week introductory course is perfect for those who need a gentle practice or those who are have no previous experience.  Postures, breathing techniques and relaxation practices are progressively introduced.  No experience necessary.

Beach Bottoms
Beach Bottoms is a FUSION favorite for bringing up the bottom!  This strength and cardio infused workout creates sculpted legs, hips and glutes while burning calories and fat.  Prepare to be pushed in this challenging format.  Students love the results they experience in shaping their lower half.

BOSU Cardio Boot Camp

Mat Pilates 1 & 2
Pilates is an exercise program developed by Joseph Pilates to engage the body and mind.  Every exercise is performed with attention to the breath, proper form and efficient movement patterns.  Pilates strengthens the core, improves balance, increases coordination and decreases stress.  Mat exercises are performed on the floor and are often accompanied by the use of small equipment.  Prerequisite: Completion of Mat 1 or instructor approval is required for enrollment in Mat 2.

Prenatal Yoga
Prenatal yoga adapts traditional yoga postures for the specific needs of pregnancy and helps to build physical strength as well as flexibility through gentle movements.  The course work also helps to ease the discomforts of pregnancy while improving balance, circulation, digestion and breathing.  Prenatal Yoga tones the body without overstretching tendons and ligaments in addition to improving quality of sleep, increasing energy and stamina for an overall greater sense of well-being.

Reformer 1, 2, 3 & Gentle Reformer
The Reformer is the most versatile piece of equipment developed by Joseph Pilates.  Using a frame, a movable carriage, springs, a footbar and adjustable straps, he invented an exercise machine that addresses every body part.  From leg presses to abdominals, arm work to standing work, these exercises are suitable for all clients, novice to super fit.

Springs of varying strengths provide resistance and support while the client lies on the box or stands on the carriage, pushing on the footbar and pulling on the straps.  Exercises vary from simple isolated movements of the arms and legs to complex exercises requiring deep core stabilization, good balance, excellent posture, control and flow; these exercises involve total body integration.  Reformer sessions provide a refreshing and energizing workout while improving strength, stabilization, muscle tone, flexibility and coordination.

Gentle Reformer is ideal for those recovering from injury, illness, managing chronic illness or with restricted range of motion.
Prerequisites: A minimum of one private Reformer session.  Students progress through levels with instructor approval.

Vinyasa 1 & 2
Vinyasa (also called Flow) classes maintain awareness and focus on the breath while moving through a series of postures.  The sequence of postures may be different from class to class, but always follow a mindful progression that builds in complexity.  This style of yoga builds heat, flexibility and strength while maintaining focus on good alignment and sound structure.  Postures may be held for longer periods of time and flow together to unite the body to the breath and mind.  For level 2, students will explore deep twists, balancing postures, arm balances and inversions.  Prerequisite: Yoga experience is necessary.

Yin Yoga
In Yin Yoga, postures are held for longer periods of time to facilitate deep stretching of the body’s connective tissues.  Students remain on the floor and props are often used to help relax into the postures.  Yin is a calm and restful class and may include readings, guided meditations or calming breath work (pranayama).  This is class is suitable for all levels of students and those recovering from illness or injury.  No experience is necessary.
